Name/Work Name: Youichi Kuramochi/cheetah
Canon: Daiya no Ace
Canon Point: Chapter 26 (Daiya no Ace part 2)
Age: 17
History: right here
Personality: At first glance Kuramochi doesn’t look like a caring or warm person. He looks like a delinquent that doesn’t take anything from anyone. If someone challenges him he won’t back down and he doesn’t mind getting into a fight. He’s competitive and if there’s something on his mind he won’t hesitate to let it out. However, there’s a soft side under his tough exterior. He can be a warm, caring guy that loves to play harmless pranks and video games. The way he cares comes out in different ways with different people. It might look like he has a short fuse with the way he will kick his junior Eijun Sawamura or snap at his fellow second year Miyuki Kazuya, but it’s far from that.
Whenever he kicks Sawamura it’s to help him calm down when he’s too high strung on the field or to snap him out of any funk he’s in. When he snaps at Miyuki, he’s not really angry at him, mostly frustrated since he knows what Miyuki is capable of. Any time he kicks or snaps at someone it’s to let out his frustration over the fact that they’re trying to bring themselves down. He doesn’t like when others bring themselves down. If Kuramochi happens to see that he will make sure to help that person feel better. He will do the same thing if the atmosphere is heavy too. He may be quick to snap at someone, but he’s just as quick to make sure that everyone is having a good time around him.
Being able to see how someone is feeling is part of his observant nature. He’s able to see things that others may try to hide such as the time he noticed that his in field partner Ryousuke Kominato hurt his ankle or when Miyuki hurt his rib. It’s not easy to hide an injury from Kuramochi. He won’t stop anyone from playing, for that’s their decision, but he will keep an eye on them in case they need his help. He doesn’t want anyone to try and injure themselves any further.
On top of his observant nature he’s also very loyal. It’s one of his qualities that carried over from his delinquent days. He will make sure that his friends are okay even if that means putting something he has on hold, he will do it. He doesn’t mind joking with his friends either. He welcomes anyone new to his dorm with pranks as a way to help them relax and calm down when they first arrive to Seidou. He remembered how nervous it can be when entering the school for the first time. The pranks is his way to help the new recruits calm down.
While he may be easy going, he can very straight forward with things too. He doesn’t hesitate to tell someone that they may not make the team or all that hard work can disappear in a blink of an eye due to other things. He knows that sugar coating something won’t help them in the end. He know how it can be to try and work hard then have that taken away because it happened to him.
He’s always had amazing talent for baseball even at a young age, but he never took it seriously. He became a delinquent and jumped on others without a second thought. His behavior led him to being banned from the schools in his district. When Seidou came to him he took the chance and didn’t look back. So when he’s being hard on his juniors about their behavior it’s because he knows what it’s like to have your reputation follow you. It’s one of the reasons he kicks his juniors when they talk about giving up. He almost gave up when he thought he messed up all his chances to play baseball, but he didn’t. He picked himself off the ground and worked hard to get where he is. He knows that everyone around him can do the same.
On top of his hard working nature comes his competitive nature. Kuramochi isn’t one to give up easily and will continue fighting for as long as he can. If there’s some way he can score a point or use his speed to steal a base he will. He carries this same nature when he plays video games, staying up for most of the night to make sure that he wins, or not wanting to lose to Sawamura when he thought he had a girlfriend. He will fight to the very end then try to fight some more. He will be upset if he loses, but he will learn from it and secure victory for next time.
Kuramochi has a lot of respect for the people in his life. They helped shape him to be the player he is today and curb the temper that lingered from his delinquent days. However, next to his friendship with Miyuki, his partnership with Ryousuke Kominato played a very big role in his development. They didn’t become a great team in the beginning. Kuramochi had to learn how to work with Ryousuke while adjusting to his life in high school. He faced some bumps along the way when they first started to work together, however Kuramochi continued to work with Ryousuke. He became determined to make it work and they worked together, until they found their rhythm. Once they did their defense became the best on the team that it earned them the nickname the ‘Iron Wall’. Kuramochi got to know Ryousuke and his younger brother, Haruichi, better too. Kuramochi felt he let Ryousuke and his seniors down when they weren’t able to go to Koshien. He would make sure that they made it to Koshien in their honor. While Kuramochi has a lot of respect for his seniors, he has the same respect for his juniors too. He may bully and tease them, but he knows that they’re very talented too.
He’s a very honor based person. When he makes a promise he doesn’t take it lightly or take it back. He has the same attitude whenever he makes a goal, he’s going to accomplish it. He will get upset if someone makes a promise or sets a goal and doesn’t put forth the effort to make sure that it happens. He knows that achieving a goal means practicing hard and having to sacrifice things sometimes. He doesn’t mind telling Sawamura that when he explains that not everyone will be able to make it on the team no matter how hard they work sometimes. However, he does support everyone’s efforts. He knows that the team trusts him. He’s going to make sure that the team won’t regret it.
There is another side of Kuramochi, a charming side that comes out when he’s trying to impress someone, such as Sawamura’s childhood friend Wakana. This side is much different than his normal one. Whenever he shows this side, he’s polite and quite the gentleman. However, this side leaves when the person he’s trying to impress is gone. It’s another part that comes to make up Kuramochi.
While he may look scary at first glance, underneath that scary face is a layered young man. Kuramochi doesn’t do anything without a reason. If he’s tough on someone it’s because he knows that they can do better. His observant nature comes from a place of caring. He’s hardworking because he knows that nothing can come out of sitting around. His competitive nature comes from his determination to become a better baseball player and a better person.
All these sides make up Youichi Kuramochi, the cheetah of Seidou.
Debt: He wants to make up for the trouble he caused his family when he was delinquent.
Inventory: Kuramochi will be coming in with his gym bag, baseball uniform, glove, baseball hat, a t-shirt, and sweatpants that he works out in.
Abilities: Kuramochi doesn’t have any supernatural powers, but he’s a well-rounded player on the team. His speed can’t be matched. His speed can go on par with Kamiya “Carlos” Toshiki, a nationally ranked player from the well-known power school Inashiro Technical. He has a strong defense and field sense that makes it easy for him to steal a base. He’s a switch hitter, he can bat from the left or the right depending on the pitcher, and can quickly catch the ball. While his defense and speed are top notch, his batting power isn’t very high. However, he makes up for that with his iron defense and base running senses.
When he isn’t on the field he plays video games and is pretty good at them.
